Destiny won’t be offering Raid items for real money, confirms Bungie

Bungie has moved to quell fears that the developer is planning on selling consumables in Destiny as part of the newly-launched Eververse Trading Company.

Currently, this microtransaction feature allows gamers to purchase new Emotes for their Guardian(s) with a new currency known as Silver, which can be bought with real-life cash. However, it has come to the attention of some fans that Bungie is apparently planning on offering Raid items via the Eververse Trading Company in addition to flashy new dance moves.

The outcry started when Destiny dataminers discovered a listing for consumables used for the Raid were highlighted as goods available for purchase; however, Bungie insists this is not the case, and that the listing is in fact outdated.

"We’re not doing that," said the company. "The files in question were actually first uncovered some time ago, well before the launch of Eververse Trading Company. They weren’t ever intended to be sold in exchange for Silver," referring to the game’s new currency.

"What you’re seeing are remnant files for Three of Coins or Moldering Shard like items that would have been available from Xûr. Ultimately, the team decided that they didn’t have a place in the game, and cut them from the experience. You’re seeing some dust and echoes from the cutting room floor."

"Files that get datamined aren’t official sources of news, though we understand why they are intriguing," Bungie added.

Destiny: The Taken King was released on September 15 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The expansion introduces a wealth of changes to the shared-world shooter, including a new levelling system, where your character’s level and Light Level are two separate entities. The content was well-received, topping the U.K. All Format Charts upon release and selling the majority of copies on the PS4. In addition to revamping the levelling system, The Taken King also introduces a new Guardian subclass for each character type (Titan, Warlock and Hunter), and implements a brand new RaidNew exotic weapons have also been added, and tweaks have been made to the Nightfall/Heroic Strike playlist.
