Norman Reedus has said he’s still hopeful for a collaboration between film director Guillermo Del Toro and Hideo Kojima, despite the cancelation of Konami’s Silent Hills on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Speaking with IGN, Reedus, who was to star in the horror title and is perhaps best known for his role as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead, once again expressed his disappointment that the project was scrapped, and praised the support of fans around the web, which included a poll to see Silent Hills resurrected.
"I’m super bummed that that happened back in Japan," Reedus said of Silent Hills’ cancellation, "but I have faith. I have faith that we, the three of us, can do something else. There were so many ideas and cool future happenings that were thrown around," added Reedus, "I just can’t see us not picking this up somewhere."
"The internet buzz about [Silent Hills] happening was so huge. I’ve never seen anything like it; petitions with a hundred thousand people that signed it, petitions to please make it happen, that’s crazy. That’s a crazy fanbase for not just that video game but also those people making that video game, and for me to jump on that truck with them, I was like, ‘Holy balls. It has to happen. You need to do this.’"
Reedus also spoke on what remains of Silent Hills after it was scrapped, and remains optimistic that the three of them (Reedus, del Toro, and Kojima) can get together at some point in the future.
"We did some of that photography with a thousand cameras pointing at you in a million different directions," he said. "We did some things with them that might be – I don’t know if it’s on the cutting room floor. It might be in someone’s hard drive somewhere. We did some stuff for it, but we never got into the full story stuff. We were about to and that water balloon burst."
"Hopefully they’ll come to some sort of agreement and that happens, or we do something very similar that’s different. I don’t know. I have faith that we’re going to do something though because it just seems like it was one of those things that needs to happen. It’s like destiny, it needs to happen."
Silent Hills was announced for PS4 at Gamescom 2014 and was pitched as a reboot of the popular psychological horror franchise. Sony offered a free demo of the game via the PlayStation Store, titled P.T. (Playable Teaser), which was subsequently pulled after Silent Hills’ cancelation. Not much else was known about the game other than Reedus’ starring role, although Kojima-san hinted that the title could be released episodically and would aim to ‘scare the sh!t’ out of players.
