Final Fantasy 7 Remake developer Square Enix has posted a number of job openings on its Japanese website for the highly anticipated JRPG revamp.
According to the postings, the Japanese videogame giant is hiring for numerous positions to work on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, including a battle planner, background designer, level planned, motion designer, VFX designer, and more. The game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, noted that a project like the remake requires a lot of time to develop, and to shorten that time requires additional manpower, hence the new openings.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, and will be released in multiple parts in order to retell the story of the seminal 1997 PlayStation title. However, the remake will make some notable changes for its PS4 overhaul, chief among which includes a more action-oriented combat system, new areas of Midgar, and fleshing out more of the game’s AVALANCHE heroes.
Despite the fact the title was unveiled nearly two years ago, Square Enix has yet to pin down a concrete Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date. However, it’s likely the game is still some way off based on comments from Nomura-san back in January, and Square Enix recently confirmed the title would not ship until ‘FY2018 and beyond.’ In other words, don’t expect to be going up against Sephiroth in glorious 1080p anytime this year.
The original Final Fantasy 7 remains one of the most popular JRPGs of all time, and helped cement the franchise in the west following a period of Japanese-exclusive releases. By August 2015, the game and its various re-releases (both physical and digital) and sold over 11 million copies worldwide, and spawned a number of spinoff titles including a dedicated CG movie follow-up in the shape of 2005’s Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children.
