For years, no one expected anything of TV and film adaptations of big video game franchises. Or if they expected anything, they expected them to be bad.
The last five years have drastically changed that, and this year’s Fallout TV show from Amazon has continued the trend of expecting a lot more from these adaptations.
Fallout was far better than anyone could’ve guessed, and that quality bar is being appreciated with 16 Emmy nominations, some of which are for the show’s highest-profile awards.
Fallout has picked up nominations for production design, costume design, visual editing, sound editing, sound mixing, makeup, its main title design, prosthetics, music supervision, visual effects, stunt coordination, stunt performance, and most notably for writing in a drama series, outstanding drama series, and actor Walton Goggins has picked up a nomination for his portrayal of The Ghoul.
When the Fallout show premiered, it skyrocketed sales of the franchise, and created a whole new subsect of fans who can’t wait for more.
Both results that speak to the quality the show delivered, and it’s good to see it recognized for the coming 76th Emmy Awards. Perhaps with its second season, it’ll be able to match the nomination count HBO’s The Last Of Us hit last year with 24 nominations.
