Along with the news that Bungie is the latest studio in the year to be hit with layoffs, a report from Bloomberg claims that sources within Bungie have stated both the coming Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape and Bungie’s next project, Marathon have been delayed.
The Final Shape has been delayed from February 2024 into June, while Marathon will now release sometime in 2025, according to Bloomberg’s sources.
There’s been no official word from Bungie if these delays are accurate, though if they are we’re likely to hear about The Final Shape sooner than later, with that release supposedly meant to arrive this coming February.
These delays seemingly make more sense given that Bungie is experiencing layoffs, though we still don’t know to what extent those layoffs have reached, and if they have drastically effected development of The Final Shape or Marathon.
Still however it feels unlikely that Bungie will be able to do more work faster with less people.
