Destiny: The Taken King – how to obtain the powerful Hand Cannon, First Curse

Destiny: The Taken King has been building up an impressive arsenal of new exotic and legendary weapons since its release on September 15, and the latest one to have been discovered by Guardians is a rather meaty Hand Cannon known as the ‘First Curse.’

Chances are that by now you have built up an impressive array of weapons from taking part in The Taken King, although why stop now when you have all that Vault space to eat up? Exactly. In that case, see below for a handy guide on how to get your mitts on the First Curse.

It’s not an easy ride though. To even begin the quest that gets you the weapon, you must first reach Rank 5 with Banshee-44, the tower gunsmith. To achieve this, you must complete many of the gunsmith’s Weapon Field Test bounties to increase your reputation, as well as handing in relics, which are randomly dropped during strikes and other such quests.

After you’ve accomplished this, you’ll be able to start a mission known as Imprecation. Follow the below guide to see the mission through and claim your ultimate prize: the First Curse.

1) The first step involves you netting kills with the Hand Cannon while utilizing a Primary or Hand Cannon Telemetry. The consumables can be purchased from Banshee-44, so make sure you have some Glimmer handy for an easy ride.

2) Once you’ve achieved the set number of kills, return to the gunsmith and speak to him to acquire the next part of the quest line.

3) You must wait until the next Armsday reset, which happens every Wednesday.

4) After waiting for the next Armsday to arrive, speak to Banshee-44 and he’ll hand you a Hand Cannon called Imprecation as a Field Test Weapon.

5) The next part of the quest requires you to first Infuse the weapon. Once you’ve done this, you must achieve seven kill sprees on regular enemies in the game world, and finally, land a single precision kill spree in The Crucible. The latter requires headshots to accomplish.

6) You’re almost there, Guardian. Now you need to speak to the gunsmith, who will (annoyingly) ask you to wait for the next Armsday. Once that rolls around, he’ll hand you your prize—First Curse!

So, why should you care about the First Curse? Well, for starters, it has an out-of-box damage rating of 290, which isn’t too shabby by anyone’s standards. The perks are quite handy too, with Triple Trap rewarding you one single round if you quickly land precision shots against your enemies. The First Curse perk, meanwhile, grants the user increased range and stability while you aim down the gun’s sights. Finally, the Dead Eye rewards better range, stability and speed when aiming.

Destiny: The Taken King was released a few weeks ago for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The expansion introduces a wealth of changes to the shared-world shooter, including the aforementioned new levelling system, where your character’s level and Light Level are two separate entities. The content was well-received, topping the U.K. All Format Charts upon release and selling the majority of copies on the PS4.

In addition to revamping the levelling system, The Taken King also introduces a new Guardian subclass for each character type (Titan, Warlock and Hunter), and implements a brand new Raid.New exotic weapons have also been added, and tweaks have been made to the Nightfall/Heroic Strike playlist.

PSU has been offering a wealth of guides for The Taken King, so be sure to follow the links below to give you a helping hand.
