Speaking during an interview with Bloomberg, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke, has revealed that the developer is utilising generative AI as part of its development process, but stressed that the upcoming Divinity is not going to use anything that has been AI-generated.
Vincke stressed that “everything is human actors; we’re writing everything ourselves” in regards to Divinity, adding that “at this point everyone at the company is more or less OK with the way we’re using it.”
He added that Larian is hoping to trim down the development time with Divinity, with AI being one potential tool to help the studio achieve this goal. That’s not the only way though, as Vincke said that developing the quest and storylines in parallel rather than linearly for Divinity will also help, and noted the size of the studio is also growing.
I think a lot of founders have the same problem. I have to be large, otherwise I can’t make my video game. With growth suddenly comes a whole bunch of responsibilities that you didn’t necessarily think you were ever gonna have, but you have them and then you make the best of them. Size exposes you to new problems that you couldn’t imagine existed.
Divinity was announced during The Game Award 2025 last Thursday, although right now there’s no details on when the game will be released or even what platforms it will be available for. However, speaking with PCGamer following its reveal, Larian revealed that the RPG is set to feature ‘deeper sequences of consequences‘ than Baldur’s Gate III.
