According to reports from both VGC and Jeff Grubb, a PlayStation Showcase is currently scheduled to appear before Summer Games Fest and the entire not-E3 but E3 season begins, sometime during the week of May 25, 2023.
Neither Grubb nor VGC name a particular date, just that the showcase is, according to their own sources, is set to happen sometime during that week.
While PlayStation hasn’t been officially attending E3 for years, it has consistently held a showcase or event of some kind between May and June.
In many ways, it would make perfect sense for PlayStation to have its event sometime that week.
Getting ahead of the rest of the crowd, while potentially bringing some heavy-hitter reveals that’ll keep players talking even throughout the rest of the not-E3 but E3 season.
For example, showing off a big chunk of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay would certainly do the trick. It would also be great to learn what else we can expect for the fall/winter season from PlayStation.
What would be great to see as well is a new killer-app coming to PS VR2, something like Half-Life: Alyx would certainly work, or the next first-party VR game headed to the new platform.
With reports that the PS VR2 hasn’t had the kind of launch Sony had hoped for, a continued effort to bring potential headset-selling software to the new generation of VR is needed.
