Speaking during Sony’s latest financial results, the company’s CFO, Lin Tao, revealed that the hardware manufacturer is aiming to sell 90 million PS5 units by the end of the year.
The game business for next year… First, we have to focus on the year-end season and try to expand the installed-based units so that we can have 90 million units by the time we start next year.
Sony announced overnight in its report for the three-month period ended September 30, 2025 that the PS5 had reached 84.2 million units, a figure that puts it ahead of any Xbox console release to date — at least, according to officially-released figures from Microsoft, which put Xbox 360 at 84 million back in 2014 as its highest-performing system to date.
