New Mass Effect Andromeda trailer bids farewell to Commander Shepard

BioWare has celebrated N7 Day by releasing a new Mass Effect Andromeda teaser trailer, which features a rousing speech by Commander Shepard.

The trailer looks back over various accomplishments the human race has made in space, and features archive footage from NASA. We’re then treated to a Mass Effect-style space craft venturing off into the unknown, presumably heading towards the Andromeda galaxy.

It’s interesting to hear Shepard’s voice in the trailer, particularly the female version of the legendary hero voiced by Jennifer Hale, as BioWare has tended to gravitate towards the male version in promotional material. Not that we’re complaining, mind, as we’re big fans of ‘FemShep’ at PSU Towers.

Mass Effect Andromeda is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in holiday 2016. The game has been confirmed to take place after the events of the original trilogy, although BioWare has already said that we shouldn’t expect any familiar faces to appear. While the game is still some way off from release, the developers have teased that Andromeda is set to be the ‘best and largest‘ instalment in the franchise to date, and will incorporate dynamic weather effects for the first time in the series. While nothing has been confirmed, it has also been hinted that Andromeda will feature some form of online component.

More recently, it has been suggested that we won’t see a high-definition remaster of the original trilogy for PS4 and Xbox One, with more info on Andromeda due to be unveiled at some point this winter. While we’re on the subject of graphics, BioWare has said that the current build of the game is already looking better than the trailer showcased at E3 2015. The team has said that Andromeda shares some of the same technology as Star Wars Battlefront, so expect the game to look nothing short of impressive in terms of in-game visuals.
