While it’s just been out for about two weeks, Bungie’s Destiny 2 can already be seen as a success, what with its concurrent player count already topping over one million, and we aren’t even counting PC gamers yet. The game isn’t stopping there yet. Activision has announced via a press release that Destiny 2 is the bggest console video game launch week of the year, and the "largest ever day one sales globally for the PlayStation Store."
Destiny 2 already surpassed the first game’s records for engagement and digital sales in its launch week. Here’s what Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg and Bungie CEO Pete Parsons had to say.
With franchise pre-order records broken, and record day-one performance on PlayStation Store, it’s exciting to see engagement at the highest ever week-one concurrency for the franchise. Also of note, for the third year in a row, Destiny is the #1 console-only game viewed on Twitch by minutes watched. Destiny 2, including the two betas, had more than 600 million minutes watched on Twitch before the raid.
