Jeff Ross, the director behind Sony Bend‘s criminally underrated Days Gone, has announced he’s joined up with Crystal Dynamics. The studio announced yesterday that it’s working on a new Tomb Raider game using the Unreal Engine 5.
Ross took to Twitter to confirm the news, although he wouldn’t say if he was involved in the new Tomb Raider or not.
I’m excited to announce I now work at the amazing Crystal Dynamics as Design Director. That’s all I can say other than I’m thrilled with the project, and especially the team of really wonderful people.
Days Gone was released in April 2019 for the PS4, and while it achieved decent reviews and performed well commercially, Sony opted not to continue with the franchise when a sequel was pitched.
However, Ross has commented that a potential Days Gone 2 would have been ‘the definitive version‘ of the series. He also believes that the departure of Sony’s Shawn Layden pretty much killed any chance of a sequel happening.
