Many PlayStation players are familiar with Jeffery Pierce, who played Joel’s brother, Tommy, in The Last Of Us Part I and Part II.
He also appeared in the last two episodes of HBO’s The Last Of Us as Perry, a leading member of Kathleen’s new Kansas City.
Rumours have been swirling that Naughty Dog intends to make another game in the series, what would be The Last Of Us Part III.
If that happens, then Pierce has stated in a recent interview he would be “really interested” in coming back as Tommy. Even with the character’s severe injuries by the end of the second game, Pierce sees “a lot of potential” in how the character’s story could progress.
“There’s a lot of potential for what Tommy would try to do, but he’s also pretty severely handicapped by the time the second game is over in a very realistic fashion. So his ability to exert force in any way is certainly compromised.
I’d be really interested to see how Neil, if he wants to tell that story, how he handles it, how he develops it, and what it grows into.”
The real question here though, is “if” a Part III happens, and Pierce knows that Neil Druckmann and the rest of Naughty Dog wouldn’t do it if they all didn’t think they should.
“I think one of my favorite things about Neil and the culture of Naughty Dog is that they’ve said very clearly, if we can’t find the compelling stories to tell within that world, we don’t care how much money it would make, we’re not gonna do it – which in this sort of day and age is just about unheard of.”
If Pierce should return to the role, then he wouldn’t be alone as an original cast member, with Troy Baker expressing his own interest in being a part of the project, were it happening.
However we know after Part II, he won’t be playing Joel – at least, so long as it’s not a memory scene.
