New PS4 announced tonight, but will it be called PS4 Neo or something else?

Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIEA) will be hosting a special PlayStation Meeting in New York City later today, where the format holder confirmed it will be announcing a new PS4 to the world—but what will it actually be called?

PS4 Neo is just a codename

As we already know, the PS4 Neo has been confirmed by Sony already, with the company first mentioning the new console in an interview with The Financial Times a week before E3. The PS4 Neo itself however, was not present at the Los Angeles trade show.

Sony has been hotly tipped to reveal the updated PS4 console at the PlayStation Meeting, although there’s also the small matter of the PS4 Slim, which has already found itself out in the wild via Gumtree, CEX, and eBay in the last few weeks.

Could Sony be using the PlayStation Meeting to announce both the PS4 Slim and PS4 Neo? A double-whammy console unveiling would certainly put the company on the map following its virtual no-show at Gamescom last month.

PS5 seems a bit ambitious

Still, there’s the question as to what the new PS4 will actually be called. Sony has used the PS4 Neo codename in the past, although it’s also been known as the PS4K and PS4.5. Using the name PS5 seems extremely unlikely at this point, although there’s a chance Sony has something else in mind besides the aliases the Internet has been using the past six months or so.

What would you like to see the new PS4 called?

Do you like the sound of PS4 Neo? How about PS4 Forever? Yes, that’s a name currently doing the rounds on the web, but at this point, anything is possible—well, sort of. Be sure to let us know your name ideas in the comments section.
