PS5 & Xbox Scarlett Will Be ‘Awesome,’ Says Cyberpunk 2077 Dev

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED has revealed it’s very much up for the arrival of Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles, which are both scheduled for release in holiday 2020. In fact, it’s worth remembering that Cyberpunk 2077 might be headed to PS5 and Xbox Scarlett at some point going by previous comments from the studio.

Speaking with GameSpot, CD Projekt RED’s John Mamais commented:

It’s going to be awesome. It’s always cool to have new consoles coming out and I can’t wait to work on those things. We’ll see what we can do with those. It’s fun watching games evolve; they’re looking more and more realistic, which is – I like working on games like that. The more powerful the technology, or the consoles, the more it is [good] for me as a game developer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for release on April 16, 2020 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The game will receive a multiplayer mode post-launch, and CD Projekt RED has said that it’s likely to follow the same model as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in regards to other DLC.

We still think there’s a very strong chance that Cyberpunk 2077 will arrive on the PS5 at some point, possibly even at launch.

The PS5 will support a range of features, including backwards compatibility with PS4 games (though not all will work), a dedicated SSD for reduced load times, 8K, and ray-tracing. Sony is also heavily rumoured to be working on a new PSVR headset.

Ex-Sony Computer Entertainment America chief, Jack Tretton, said has revealed that the format holder is likely to fave ‘exponentially more competition’ with the PS5 than the last console cycle, but remains impressed with what he’s heard about the new machine so far.
