Sony Interactive Entertainment has released PS4 update 6.71, which you can grab now for a rather measly sum of 464MB. You probably remember that Sony rolled out a new PS4 patch just last week, and much like that one, this latest update for the console does little of anything new. Still, hopefully it’s another step towards getting some exciting new features for the PS4.
PS4 Update 6.71 Patch Notes Are Nothing Surprising
The PS4 update 6.71 patch notes confirm pretty much what you’d expect: It “improves system performance.” It’s also optional, but still, it’s still worth grabbing even if it doesn’t do anything major.
The last major update for the console added the much-requested PSN name change feature, which arrived 13 years after the launch of Sony’s online service. Still, better late than never, eh?
Prior to that, PS4 update 6.50 added a number of extra features including Remote Play compatibility for iOS devices. Once you’ve got your console update, it’s probably a good idea to head over to the PlayStation Store to check out the June 2019 PS Plus lineup.
In related news, Sony has announced that Days of Play will be returning next month, offering a range of discounts on PS4 hardware and games, including a Limited Edition console. In addition, Sony UK is running a massive sale on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita titles.
Looking ahead to next year, Sony is preparing to launch its next-generation console, the PS5, which will support a range of features including backwards compatibility with PS4 games, SDD, ray-tracing, and PSVR.
Jack Tretton, the ex-head of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), recently chimed in on the subject of next-gen, suggesting the format holder is in a good position with the PS5, but feels the company will face greater competition than they did with the PS4.
The PS5 is rumoured to launch in November 2020, with Sony only so far stating it will not be released until after April 2020.
