One of the major additions to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the application of full voice acting, something which wasn’t featured in the PSOne version of the seminal RPG. Cloud Strife is being voiced by Cody Christian, but it wasn’t always that way. The pointy-haired protagonist was previously brought to life by Steve Burton, who voiced Cloud in Kingdom Hearts and multiple other projects.
Despite becoming synonymous with Cloud in recent years, Square Enix has replaced Burton for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. However, the actor has since taken to Twitter to extend his congratulations to Christian, and thanked Square for the opportunity to voice the iconic character.

Burton wrote: “You may have heard, I will no longer be voicing the amazing cloud strife. Much luv & respect to @SquareEnix for the opportunity.. forever GRATEFUL! And so grateful to all of the FANS..thank you so much for the [love] & support. My best to @ReallyCody I’m sure he will do a great job!”
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was featured extensively at E3 2019, with a new gameplay demo showcased, confirmation of a 1st Class Edition, and mutterings of a potential PS5 release of the game. Square Enix also revealed the game will ship on two Blu-ray discs, and it doesn’t yet know how many episodes the full project will encompass.
The first part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake, which covers the events that take place in Midgar, will ship on March 3, 2020 for PlayStation 4. The original version of the game came out back in 1997, and is hailed as one of the greatest JPRGs of all time, not to mention helping increase the Final Fantasy series’ popularity in western territories.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s producer recently said that he expects future episodes in the game to be made more efficiently.
