Sony Confirms Taipei International Game Show 2020 Lineup, Includes The Last Of Us: Part 2

Sony has announced details on the Taipei International Game Show 2020, revealing the event will take place February 6 – 9 and will feature a pretty substantial lineup including Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part 2.

In addition to The Last of Us: Part 2, there will also be a number of other major games on display, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Iron Man VR, Nioh 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Resistance, Elden Ring, and NBA 2K20.

Not all of them are playable, so expect trailer for a few of titles that are still far off, such as Elden Ring, and that doesn’t mean we’ll be getting new footage of them, either.

The Last of Us: Part 2 is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation 4 in May 2020, and is one of the final major releases for Sony’s current-generation console before the format holder rolls out the PS5.

The sequel takes place around five years after the events of the previous game, and sees a 19-year-old Ellie out for revenge against an unknown group. Joel is also confirmed to appear in The Last of Us: Part 2, but the planned multiplayer component is instead going to be released separately.

Sony has confirmed a holiday 2020 release window for the highly anticipated PS5, which is rumored to launch alongside the next instalment in the Gran Turismo franchise.

It’s also been suggested that Sony will be releasing a PS5 Pro alongside the regular version of the system and we’ve heard chatter about a mid-cycle refresh, too.

Jack Tretton, the former head of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), reckons that Sony will face ‘exponentially more competition‘ during the next hardware cycle compared to what it experienced during the PS4-era.

One of the biggest selling points of the PS5 will be backwards compatibility, which is rumored to extend to older PlayStation titles in addition to playing PS4 games. If true, then this will put Sony on equal stomping grounds with Microsoft.
